Philosophy

The objective of RLCM is to become the ultimate provider of coaching education for rugby league coaches at all levels.

Over the past 20 years RLCM has collected a significant library of articles and DVD’s regarding coaching rugby league across all levels of the game. RLCM has now commenced the huge task of cataloguing our extensive library into four groups, to reflect the different levels of coaching that exist within the game. A separate group has also been established for referees, as without them there is no game.

The current two membership levels are for individuals or clubs who would like to have a group of coaches accessing the RLCM content.

Over time the contents of the RLCM library will be split into three categories to accommodate the different coaching levels. These levels are:

  1. Mini-Mod Coach
  2. Senior Coach
  3. Professional Coach

This creates a pathway for coaches to follow if they want to continue coaching their children as they get older and progress from the Mini-Mod game into the Senior game. As not all coaches want to be professional coaches, many will specialise in these two groups.

Additionally, most of the content that is relevant for a Professional Coach is hardly applicable for a Mini-Mod Coach, so each coaching level will now contain content that is relevant for the coaches and players at that level. For example, the mental skills area of Mini-Mod Coach will deliver material that is relevant to coaches who are working with 6 year old to 12 year old children. Topics will include behaviour management, learning and development strategies that are age appropriate for this group.

RLCM will now be moving into online education to deliver a comprehensive training package for rugby league coaches. This will be delivered by online modules and webinars.

The content of the online modules and webinars will be split up into the following 6 categories:

  1. The Art and Science of Coaching –  modules that draw on the knowledge of coaches from both within rugby league and outside rugby league who can provide insights into best coaching practices;
  2. Technical Skills – rugby league tactics and technical skills (skill acquisition and skill execution);
  3. Physical Conditioning – the strength and conditioning element of rugby league;
  4. Mental Skills – the mental skills that coaches can use to enhance their coaching and the mental skills that         coaches need to teach their athletes such as, communication, building confidence, managing emotions, managing stress, dealing with mental health issues and so on;
  5. Rehabilitation – first aid and injury management to assist injured players return from injury in the most effective manner;
  6. Lifestyle – areas outside of rugby league that coaches often end up having an involvement in. This includes player welfare issues such as nutrition, sleep, social media, socialising, relationships and so on.

The online modules and webinars will also be archived, so new members will have access to the entire RLCM content library as they join.
